The Problem with One Arm Pull Up
The one arm pull up/one arm chin up is one of those moves that seems impossible at first. But despite its popularity and the label of ultimate feat of relative strength, lots of things about it remain unclear. Over my 8 to 9 years in calisthenics/bodyweight training I developed a burning desire to uncover the truth behind this skill. The inconsistency I observed within technique, rate of progression and methods being used amongst individuals inspired me to finally take a closer look at it. I spent last couple of months studying and investigating different aspects of the one arm pull up, I’ve been reading, testing things out and having conversations with experienced coaches and athletes. I collected my ideas and created this video for anyone who used to work, currently works or plan to chase one arm pull up in the future. This video is not a tutorial, I will not give you the ready program for getting this skill or tell you how much time it’s gonna take. However, what I will do is try to find out the answer to one bothering question. Why does one arm pullup come so hard to some people, while much easier to the others?

What program should I use to achieve my calisthenics/bodyweight goals? What type of periodization should I use? How to approach bulking and cutting when our goals are planche, front lever, handstand push up or one arm chin up? These are the questions bodyweight athletes have on their minds all the time. In order to get the best answers for them I invited one of the biggest experts and person I ...

The Problem with Front Lever
Переглядів 580 тис.3 роки тому
Do Weighted Pull-ups carry over to Front lever? Do Abs play a role, or only back? Why some people found it so hard to achieve while others get in in couple of months? It's really intriguing how a single skill can be as iconic and popular, while at the same time have so many different shades and uncertainties around it. I don’t think I have to introduce front lever to any of the viewers. However...

How Specificity Ruins your Planche Progress...
Переглядів 21 тис.3 роки тому
Calisthenics skills like planche are the displays of very specific strength - that cannot be gained through simple general training - this statement is absolutely true, yet due to wrong interpretation can lead us to much slower progress and lots of plateaus... The principle of specificity - undoubtly one of if not the single most important concept in training - derives from the observation that...

When You Overthink Calisthenics...
Переглядів 16 тис.3 роки тому
Today I will tell you a bit about overthinking - one of the biggest trap calisthenics athletes (and not only) can fall into. The paralysis of analysis is the term probably first time being used in 1970’s in one of The Times articles. However the essence of the overanalyzing problem has been expressed many times before even in the Antique era. The Fox and the Cat fable illustrates the paradox of...
The Dilemma of LEG TRAINING | Calisthenics
Переглядів 133 тис.4 роки тому
Every single bodyweight athlete at some point will have to face one tough dilemma. To train legs or not to train. The subject on first sight as simple and obvious is still one of more controversial themes within and outside calisthenics circles. On one hand you got people doing crazy skills who win trophies and get likes on instagram who don’t really bother to train their lower body. On the oth...

The Paradox of WEIGHTED CALISTHENICS
Переглядів 107 тис.4 роки тому
Weighted calisthenics is an interesting concept that I’ve been thinking a lot about lately. This group of exercises on top of being a staple of many people’s training programs, became an independent competitive discipline. When we talk about weighted calisthenics, what most people mean is basically taking bodyweight movements and loading them with external resistance in different forms, usually...
The Art of HANDSTAND PRESS

Handstand press is one of those calisthenics movements that made me obsess over this style of training. While I was always kicking up to handstand, I was getting notoriously faced with a footage of people entering handstand position in some different way. Thi...

Appreciate this content. It's been very informative and vital to help decide what to focus on. _ 🇿🇦 #Pawsthenics 🐾
You can always do sprint training. Sprints will give you strong, athletic legs without the unnecessary bulk, as well as improve cardiopulmonary strength and endurance.
Me after 3 years hoping I win the giveaway rings :') Awesome info !
for the height and weight for front lever , you also need take take the arms' length into account , my friend and I have the same pulling power and same force but he can do front lever easier 'cause of his arms's length (for statics it's easier on people with longer arms)
Nice video but plz add timestamps
the golden video for Calisthenics community
i think there is an error because if you increase the ORM the OAP chanche goes down
You should check GeekClimber video on front lever where, throught math and physics, he concludes that arm length is a huuude deal. He event builds himself wooden "longer arms" and improves its front level a lot
35:35 VICE documentary ahh interview
Unlike most of the channels this guy seems to be more relatable
7:40 That must becouse whos have only tuck haves much weight in legs
The full nordic curl is a difficult and aesthetic leg skill in its own right, and a tiny bit of extra hamstring mass isn't going to hurt your front lever.
Wow soo informative &motivational. U don't have a massive ego either.🤜🤛 I'm 50,was at the forefront of bouldering l8 90s. Last15 yrs heroin addict,now in recovery,attempting to pick up,where I fell off!?!.. 💀🙏
So much research, not a proper question and conclusion
Weighted calisthenics is a paradox.
Thank you! I've been trying to make the perfect program to make gains as efficient and effective as possible for a week now, my brain is absolutely fried, I'll just make things simple.
Imma just grow long ass hair and skip legday
This makes it seem more complicated than it should be. I just attempted it and it isn't too hard. Definitely not anywhere near perfect but after a few weeks i think i can do it.
When you run out of ideas for content:
This was high quality content, thanks for all the hard work, I am a new sub! I was wondering if you let me use the survey data to make a data analysis project for my CV if you are okay with that? I will reference your name for sure nothing commercial it's just I am a junior data analyst and I happen to love calisthenics!
Tus videos me estan ayudando un montón, espero que lo retomes, son increíbles, llevaba un montón de tiempo buscando información como esta y no la encontraba, gran trabajo!
I finally got full FL recently after years of training at 189cm 88kg. Weighted chin-up max is +80kg for 3 reps.
Just so we clear, bro went through all of this and found... nothing except that FL is more difficult for tall people? I mean, thank you probably but where is my exercise with the best carry over? This video doesn't answer anything.
Wow what a great video! I was especially interested in the weighted pull-up percentage carrying over to OAP section. I'm ~190cm and 90kg, my current weighted CHIN-up max is +80kg for 3 reps. OAP still feels totally impossible for me, but I have close to no specific training for it as I'm scared of injury and have been focusing on front lever. Planning to start very slow banded OAP training soon, this gives me hope that it will be possible.
just do barbell squats most people dont know its calistenics
that's the most factual explanation
Nice vid
4:32 this was honestly my biggest takeaway from the video. I tried it for 10 seconds and my wrist pain went away.
…Dr. Mike had hair?
amazing perfect awesome
actually I find front levers easy. I never trained for It and can hold it for 10 seconds. the first sentence applies to me pretty good. I am a powerlifter. I deadlift 430lbs at 146lbs bodyweight.
Yeah most calisthenics skills are going to be easy at 146lbs
ain't no way bro wrote a hour and a half documentary about 1 variation of an exercise 😭
Working legs along side calisthenics for parkour. Want to have a full rang of motion
This is the dumbest take I've ever seen. Yeah adding mass to your legs will make pull ups slightly harder, but how's that a bad thing? You're pulling up more weight and therefore getting stronger. Oh yay I can get 20 reps with chicken legs but only like 17 with thunder thighs. 😂 Pure ego mentality trying to get as many reps as possible instead of building overall strength.
I just spent an hour and a half watching Dr. Manhattan doing pull-ups.
Using loose rings is the only way to go. They permit natural range of motion.
More sets more gains...wrong...less sets more gains...5x sets..lol..cmon you ain't no pro,I'm doing it 25yearsand would never be so smart to propagate 5x sets lol...1 set max 2..mostly 1 set unless working on endurance, skill or technique 15:57
Why so many sets of warmup...wth..scapula dips, raises a few times,,few jumping pull ups chin ups,Burpees...wmin done...you warm ,non fatigued, shoulder, hip, wrist mobility,spine...2mins more..that's it...train..don't overcomplicate warmups geesh
Thanks for the suggestions. The problem with parallettes for me is to practice chest to wall. Entering the handstand is so clumsy. I can't use a cartwheel, walking on them is risky, and I always find myself too far from the wall. What do you suggest?
79kg,I am 183,5 cmcmé cm and have a 108,5 cm leg to hip...why my front lever is straddle and 1 sec clear form hold...in 1 month I'll have it 15:40❤I feel doing front lever slightly bend arms is much easier 21:17
Such a good video. Thank you.
36:03 i think Jake is one of the Stoltman brothers
It breaks my heart that this is your last video. I encountered your channel for the first time here. It’s so good. I got excited to watch more, and this is your last video. I hope you’ve had a great two years and that what ever you’ve done instead is fulfilling and brings you joy.
It’s still no iron cross.
Do lower leg reps and prioritise load and form over volume
I managed to do a couple of one armed pullups, but then I ripped something in my lat. And I've not been close since then.
I can’t bother watching the whole video so can someone summarise it for me?
It’s not that I don’t like it it’s just I only have so much screen time 😂
No I can't
Correction longer arms make front lever easier!
I do 1RM with 70kg pull up but cannot do a single one arm pull up.
